我不想貶低我們的遊樂場 I have no wish to belittle our playground…

但我想要告訴你 but I put it to you that it was, all the same,

這畢竟是一件小事 a small thing.

不久之後，它就會像大多數的小事一樣消逝 And that it will, before long, go the way of most small things.

可能會年久失修 It may fall into disrepair,

或是被更宏偉的計畫取代 or be superseded by some grander scheme.

坦白說 To speak plainly,

我們不能想當然爾地認為 這會永垂不朽 we cannot assume to have erected a lasting monument.

會不會有一天你不再清楚 Should there come days when it’s no longer clear to you

自己每天努力的目標是什麼 to what end you are directing your daily efforts…

當這一切的折磨 when the sheer grind of it all

把你推到我長久以來經歷的那種困境 threatens to reduce you to the kind of state in which I so long existed…

我希望你回想起我們的小遊樂場 I urge you then to recall our little playground…

以及它完工後我們獲得的滿足感 and the modest satisfaction that became our due upon its completion.
