SIGGRAPH Asia 2012 落幕了快 20 天,搭上了一篇 Technical Briefs 的順風車,去了一趟新加坡。
新坡加,是個中文、英文、馬來文與坦米爾文為官方語言的國家。 都市的建築、行人走路的速度、多國語言的交談聲、金融機構的發達程度 以及大量的外商林立,她是個比台北城來得發達與先進的地方, 我是這麼認為的吧。

上台演講,還是會緊張吶~~不過看著前幾天,隨行的實驗室同學的排練,就突然覺得很輕鬆了。 年輕真好,有緊張出糗的權力;年長更好,變得什麼事都可以悠然自在以對了。 I still have a dream, to present a technical paper, a full paper, with good quality and presentation skill, in SIGGRAPH.

新加坡的美食,我印象最深刻的就是肉骨茶了。 清湯拌著胡椒味、滿滿都是肉的肋骨,吃起來過癮極了! 一吃就上癮! 奕超加點的肥腸怎麼可以這麼好吃! 油條混進湯裏,怎麼可以這麼美味! Oh my~

In SIGGRAPH Asia 2012, I addressed a talk about Lip-Synced Character Speech Animation with Dominated Animeme Models, a topic that is cooperated with National Taiwan University for around three years. It’s a work of lip-sync animation, part of facial animations. The idea is to synthesize lip-synced character speech animation in real time given a speech sequence (audio) and its corresponding analyized texts (phonemes actually). The talk went well even though I didn’t have well-prepared presenting scripts.

In case we lost this simple but elegant website design for a renderer, I make snapshots of the website and post a blog for them. The website is Solid Angle, the company developing/delivering Arnold Renderer, which I thought the most strong challenger and rule breaker in animation/VFX industry. Well, did I mention that Pixar’s RenderMan got threatened by Arnold Renderer?!

Siggraph 2009 年時,Sony Pictures Imageworks1 正式對外發佈, 啟動了五項開放源始碼的計畫。 隔了一年,在 Siggraph 2011 時,組織了一個 Open Source 的論壇, 由來自 Sony Pictures Images, Walt Disney Animation Studios, Industrial Light & Magic, Pixar Animation Studios 等人聚在一起,與業界人事討論這事。相當的盛況空前。 在今年,則是由 Dreamworks 發佈出來的 OpenVDB 以及 Pixar 放出來的 OpenSubdiv 接棒執行下去。
但是,開放源始碼這件事,每家工作室究竟有辦法花多少力氣來執行? 開放出來後,與外頭的開發者又有多少互動? 會有人好奇想知道嗎?
我很好奇。 我先把目標鎖定在 Github 裏頭,然後挑出幾個稍為聽過的 studio 的狀況出來, 接著把他們每個 project 最後一次的 commit time 給紅標出來,如下:
